This program presents two big pieces that are out of this world. The B Sides by Mason Bates has been described as "This is new music as you always hoped it would be - exciting, beautiful, surprising and full of a vivid sense of discovery." Electronic sounds are added as one more instrument in this innovative and fresh work, composed in 2009.

We move to a music inspired by both our solar system and astrology with Gustav Holst's brilliant suite, The Planets. Described as a piece that "still leaves us gasping," each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System and reflects its astrological significance. With nearly 100 published recordings for orchestra, and dozens more for wind ensemble, jazz band, and more, this suite is known as Holst's greatest work and certainly his most popular. You should hear it live to see why!
